New Canaan Police Department To Swear In Newest Officer

NEW CANAAN, Conn., -- A 23-year-old Norwalk man is moving on from a juice bar's store manager to becoming a New Canaan Police officer.

Omar Rivera accepted the job offer on Wednesday. His swearing in ceremony will be held at the Lapham Community Center on Friday, at 10:00 a.m. He will then begin his training at the Connecticut Police Academy, located in Meriden, on July 1. It is the Police Academy’s 354rd training session. Rivera’s tentative graduation date has yet to be determined.

Rivera received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in sociology, from the University of Connecticut and worked there as a student worker in the admissions department. After receiving his degree he became a store manager at Robek's before becoming a police officer.
