Police nabbed the two around 10:20 a.m. Monday when officers received information that a vehicle that had been stolen out of New Canaan may be in the area of the mall after an electronic tracking device alerted to that area, said Trumbull Police Lt. Dave Golding.
Officers checking the parking lots inside the mall spotted the stolen vehicle parked in a space near the Madison Avenue entrance, Golding said.
As the officers watched the vehicle, two men were seen approaching the vehicle and police surrounded the area, he added.
As they entered the vehicle, several officers approached the two. The male who had entered the driver’s seat was captured at the scene, Golding said.
The male on the passenger side, later identified as Tyler Tiray Ballew 19, Bridgeport, eluded police and ran off on foot, Golding added.
A foot chase ensued back into and through the mall, with Ballew exiting back into the parking area where he was captured shortly after by the pursuing officers, police said.
Ballew, and a 17-year-old male, also from Bridgeport, were both charged with larceny and interfering with police.
Ballew was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 26. The juvenile was later released to the custody of his parents and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27.
