NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A Monroe native with a year of professional baseball under his belt will join the New Canaan Police Department.

Robert Rizzitelli, 25, is from Monroe and is a graduate of Masuk High School.

Rizzitelli was most recently employed by MEDPATH Partners as a clinical recruiter. Before that, he played one season of professional baseball for the White Sands Pupfish in the Pecos League in New Mexico.

He attended the University of Connecticut and then Pace University, where he majored in English and earned a bachelor of arts degree.

Rizzitelli participated in the September recruitment process for entry level police officers with the New Canaan Police Department. He was one of 79 candidates who submitted applications for employment.

He successfully took part in an intensive testing and selection process, including a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing, and Police Commission interview.

Rizzitelli will be sworn in on Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lapham Community Center.

He will begin his recruit training on Dec. 29 at the Connecticut Police Academy’s 360th training session in Meriden. The tentative graduation date for that class is June 12, 2018.

After completion of the academy, he will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being certified as a probationary police officer.
