An investigation into the theft of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at a Ralph Lauren store in Fairfield County has been launched by the New Canaan Police Department.

Three larcenies have recently taken place at the Ralph Lauren location on Elm Street in New Canaan within the past week, Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said. In total, suspects made off with approximately $8,300 worth of merchandise.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, two African-American women entered the store and proceeded to pick up multiple items and leave in a waiting car without paying. The suspects were described as two women wearing baseball hats who were carrying small shopping bags. Ferraro said that they may have left in a gray Toyota Corolla, which left the area traveling east towards Route 123.

The value of the items was estimated at approximately $300.

The following day, on Friday, Oct. 4, a second theft occurred, this time with the suspects taking off with merchandise valued at approximately $4,000.

The first suspect is described as an African American man who is approximately 5-foot-9, weighing approximately 180 pounds. At the time of the theft, he was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, tan pants, black sneakers, and a black baseball cap with a “NY” emblem on the front. 

The second suspect was described as an African American woman who is approximately 5-foot-8l, 185 pounds. wearing a blue puffy jacket, black leggings with a wide stripe down the left side, a camouflage baseball hat and glasses. 

Ferraro said that a suspicious vehicle seen in the area is an older model black Honda Accord, with the registration of 6ASTG1.

A third larceny was reported at the same store at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, with four suspects - three African American men and an African American woman - making off with items worth an estimated $4,000.

The suspects were described as a 5-foot-9 man wearing black sneakers, tan pants, a dark-colored sweatshirt with a logo on the front, and a light-colored baseball hat.  The second suspect was approximately 5-foot-8, wearing white sneakers, black pants, a red sweatshirt and a baseball hat that had a light-colored brim and a dark color back.  The third man was wearing dark-colored pants and a red shirt or sweatshirt. 

The woman involved was wearing tan slippers, black sweatpants with writing or some type of white stripe down the right leg, a black sweatshirt with writing across the front and stripes on the left arm, and a camouflage baseball hat.  The suspects’ vehicle used appeared to be the same as the previously listed vehicle from Oct. 4.
