Fast thinking first responders in New Caanan helped rescue a man on Thursday afternoon after he slipped through ice on a pond attempting to rescue his dog, which had fallen in too.
The New Canaan Police Department received an emergency call shortly before 1:45 p.m. on Thursday from a resident on Dan’s Highway, who advised that the man had fallen through the icy pond, which was located on his property.
Upon arrival, first responders from the police department, New Canaan Fire Department and New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps reported that the man was waist-deep, though he was quickly pulled out of the frigid water and treated by paramedics at the scene.
Officials said that both the elderly man and dog survived and suffered only minor injuries.
