Fairfield County Ccsu Student Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash

A 22-year-old Central Connecticut State University student from Fairfield County died after a single-vehicle crash.

Brandon Hensel, of Newtown, was killed around 5 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 28 on Toddy Hill Road in Newtown, according to police.

Hensel, who was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer, was discovered on a property on Quarry Ridge Road and was transported by Newtown Ambulance to Danbury Hospital where he on Monday, March 1, said Newtown PD Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde.

According to an investigation, Hensel was travel northbound on Todd Hill Road before striking a curbing and traveling off the roadway.

The vehicle then continued northbound off the roadway, striking various objects, before crossing over Quarry Ridge Road and coming to rest in a year off the west side of Quarry Ridge.

"It is always a tragedy whenever a young person's life ends in a tragic accident such as this, I know that our officers did their best in providing first aid, but to have this outcome it hurts," Bahamonde said. "I know the town will be in mourning for the loss of this young man's life and we pray to keep the family in our minds and hearts as they deal with this tragedy" 

Bahamonde said the department has reached out to CCSU to provide whatever support and comfort for Brandon's professors and classmates.
