Mildred K. Russell, 89, Longtime New Canaan Resident

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Mildred K. Russell, a longtime New Canaan resident, died Saturday, Sept. 28. She was 89.

Russell was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Utica, N.Y., daughter of Aram and Zahoury Yazejian Kazanjian. She was a graduate of Hunter College and was awarded a Master’s Degree from Teachers College at Columbia University. She served for more than 25 years as the director of the Youth Employment Service and Career Resource Center at New Canaan High School, and was a member of the New Canaan Youth Commission.

Russell is survived by her daughters, Catherine Ann Russell and Margaret-Angele Russell, both of New York City; son, William T. Russell, Jr. (Helen Gates Russell); three grandchildren; and sister, Anna Longobardo, of Bronxville, N.Y. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, William T. Russell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the First Presbyterian Church, New Canaan, 178 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan, CT 06840.
