Judith Ann Jennings, 72, Longtime New Canaan Resident

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - Judith Ann Jennings, a resident of New Canaan and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Tuesday, June 11. She was 72.

Jennings was born April 13, 1941, in Belmont, Ohio, to Paul and Martha Williams. She graduated from the University of Akron. After her marriage she moved East with her husband, they lived 15 years in New Jersey before settling in New Canaan in 1978 and lived there for 35 years.

Jennings volunteered and held leadership roles in many local organizations, including the Garden Center of New Canaan (now the New Canaan Beautification League), the New Canaan Sewing Group, the Parent Faculty Association of New Canaan High School, the Junior League of Stamford/Norwalk, West School PTC, and the Newcomer’s Club. She served as the chair of the golf committee at The Country Club of New Canaan and was a member of The Stanwich Club in Greenwich. She was also a member of the Women’s Westchester and Fairfield County Golf Association.

Jennings is survived by her husband, William Christopher Jennings; son, W. Bryan Jennings (Lee M.) of Darien; daughters, Martha A. Jennings of Wayne, Pa., Suzanne J. Harrison (John W.) of New Canaan; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the Funeral Service at The Stanwich Club, 888 North St, Greenwich, CT 06831.

Contributions in Jennings’s memory may be made to The Judith A. Jennings Fund and sent to The University of Akron Foundation, Akron, OH 44325-2603. The Jennings family has established this fund to memorialize Jennings’s name by providing merit scholarships for future teachers.
