John Novokus, Sr., 97, Of New Canaan, WWII Vet, Owned Landscaping Business

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - John Novokus, Sr., an 80 year resident of New Canaan, died Aug. 2. He was 97.

Novokus was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Wyoming, Pa. He attended school in Pennsylvania and graduated as valedictorian from Wyoming High School at the age of 17. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 1941 until 1945 as signalman on the SS H.L. Pratt and the Mount McKinley. After World War II, he started his own landscaping business and cared for many properties in New Canaan.

Novokus is survived by his son, John Novokus; daughter-in-law, Isabelle; three granddaughters; and three great grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Spadaccini Novokus; and grandson, John.

Funeral Services will be private.
