What's On Your Mind, New Canaan?

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Preparing to return to high school, hydrogen-powered vehicles and a relaxing respite from Vancouver were some of the things on the minds of people in New Canaan when we spoke with them Thursday afternoon.

Molly Aaronson, 16, was thinking about how nice summer has been at her job at New Balance New Canaan. “It’s been good. I have a good time, there’s good pay and good hours,” said Aaronson. She’s now getting ready for a return to classes at New Canaan High School, where she will be a senior.

Chris Hume, 16, of Wilton, was headed to an SAT prep class at Chyten Education Services. Hume, who will be a junior at Wilton High School, has enjoyed his time away from school as well as a trip to Arizona and the Grand Canyon. He’s not so enthused about returning to school. “Just 11 days left,” he said.

Alan Goldberg, 81, was thinking about clean energy, especially his desire to see the development of more hydrogen-powered cars and less dependency on fossil fuels, which he says hurt the environment. “I want to see more people talking about climate change and ways to solve our problems,” Goldberg said.

Beth Dwyer was thinking about helping her twin children, Kevin and Caitlin, as they prepare to head off to the University of Colorado at Boulder and St. Lawrence University in New York, respectively. “It’s their last week home,” Dwyer said. But first, she walked her dogs, Frankie and Johnny, along Elm Street. “The only things I’ll be taking care of (will be) them,” she said.

Michele Audet was soaking up the final day of her vacation visit to New Canaan from Vancouver, British Columbia. “I think this place is beautiful,” Audet said. “The kids would rather come here than go to Hawaii.”
