What's Happening in New Canaan This Weekend

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A celebration of blues and barbecue, a state lacrosse playoff game and an ice cream social are some of the events planned for this weekend in around New Canaan.

Friday

St. Luke’s School commencement: 10 a.m. to noon. St. Luke’s School will celebrate its graduates at the 2012 commencement ceremony on the campus at 377 N. Wilton Road.

Books, Blues and BBQ at New Canaan Library: 7 p.m. The library will host its first ever Books, Blues and BBQ fundraising event. Visitors will be treated to the music of blues band Tangled Vine and get to dine on barbecued meat from Uncle Willie’s BBQ of Seymour and North Haven. New Canaan High School presents "Oklahoma!:" 7:30 p.m. The high school theater department will stage "Oklahoma!," the first musical produced by the legendary team of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Filled with familiar tunes, it has become a perennial favorite among theatergoers. Performances will also be held Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. New Canaan High School auditorium, 11 Farm Road.

Saturday

New Canaan Farmers' Market: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit with vendors selling farm fresh foods, soaps, crafts and other treats. The Farmers' Market is open every Saturday rain or shine through Nov. 17. Center School Parking Lot at Maple and Main streets.

New Canaan High School Boys Lacrosse: 3 p.m. The New Canaan Rams will face off against the North Haven High School Indians in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoffs at Dunning Stadium.

Sunday

New Canaan Historical Society 23rd Annual Ice Cream Social: 1 to 4 p.m. The historical society will host an old-fashioned ice cream social with music by The Town Band and the Saxsationals and entertainment by Roger the Jester. Antique and classic cars will be on parade on the great lawn. Off campus, the Little Red Schoolhouse on Carter Street will be open from 1:30 to  3:30 p.m. 13 Oenoke Ridge.
