NEW CANAAN, Conn. The top of the ticket was not the only place where New Canaan Republicans were fighting for nominations.
Town Clerk Claudia Weber fended off a challenge from Jennifer Prudy to win the GOP nod during Tuesdays party caucus at Saxe Middle School. Weber defeated Prudy, 1,120-947.
Incumbent Town Council members Steve Karl, Tucker Murphy and Kenneth Campbell secured Republican nominations to run for new terms as well, earning 1,538, 1,439 and 1,005 votes, respectively. Fire Commission Chairman Roger Williams, who with 1,006 votes secured the fourth nomination for Town Council, will join them on the Republican ticket. Challengers Daniel Radman and Roy Abramowitz finished with 892 and 796 votes, respectively.
Gene Goodman, Scott Gress and Hazel Hobbs ran unopposed for the three nominations for the Board of Education. Incumbent treasurer and newspaper publisher Donald Hersam also ran unopposed as did town constable candidates Austin O. Furst Jr., Greg Pepe, John M. Ponterotto and Van Young.
