The offer to pay for the traffic study portion of a townwide plan for New Canaans future still needs to be approved by several town boards, First Selectman Jeb Walker said in a statement.
Walker announced Friday that any private offer to fund a traffic study would need to be approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance and the Town Council. The comments were issued in response to comments Walker made Wednesday that he had made arrangements with an unnamed developer to cover the $25,000 cost of the traffic portion of a master plan to analyze future use of several town facilities. The traffic count study offer, Walker said, is still in the preliminary stages and will be presented to all the town boards if and when it is formalized.
The Long Range Planning Committee is requesting a $175,000 special appropriation to fund the second phase of the master plan. The Town Council expects to discuss the master plan funding at its March 31 meeting.
