Trains On Schedule After Derailment

Service at the New Canaan Metro North station resumed at 12:27 p.m. Thursday after a train carrying no passengers derailed five hours earlier blocking the intersection of Grove Street and Pine Street and causing New Canaan commuters to use buses to Talmadge Hill. For most of the morning, train service was running from Talmadge Hill to Stamford and into New York. Service was briefly suspended as a crane lifted the train back onto the track.

Dan Brucker, spokesperson for MTA said that the derailment was likely caused by pressure on the outer edge of a wheel, which climbed over the side of the rail. "It is a very rare occurrence," Brucker said. He called it a "minor derailment" and said there was no damage to the track. Commuters should not be concerned about traveling on the track, he said.
