Town Hall Repairs Get Green Light

The Board of Selectmen has authorized about $49,000 in repairs to the basement of town hall in an effort to create more space. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize the Department of Public Works to enter into a contract with Sillo Construction LLC of New Canaan to make several repairs to town hall.

The most extensive will be a $39,200 repair to the basement, which was damaged by flooding in 2007. The contract will also include $6,000 in repairs to the second floor of town hall and $4,500 for contingency costs.

Insurance funds will be available to cover the repairs, First Selectman Jeb Walker said. The other members of the Board of Selectman are Robert Rallozzi III and Sally Hines. Walked added that the work will return space that had been lost previously. The fire marshal's office and parking department had occupied the basement prior to the flood Assistant Public Works director Tiger Mann said. The planning and zoning, environmental and inland wetlands departments were relocated to Irwin Park.

Mann said the fire marshal's office and parking will return to the basement after the repairs, while the finance and human resources departments will move to new space on the second floor, creating more office and meeting space. "It will give us some needed additional conference space," Mann said Tuesday.
