New Canaan Author to Speak About Dual Caregivers

STAMFORD, Conn. – New Canaan author Kathryn Slattery will speak in Stamford on Monday, Sept. 26, about the struggle of taking care of one’s own family and aging parents at the same time.

Slattery is the third of four speakers in the “Sandwich Generation Lecture Series” that the Church of Christ the Healer will hold. “Squeezed in the Middle: Caring for Aging Parents in the Sandwich Generation” will give six tips on how to maintain balance between the two roles, the release said.

“More and more people are caught in this dual care-giving role,” the Rev. Kate Heichler, Christ the Healer’s pastor, said. “It’s draining and can be so demoralizing. We want to bring some wonderful community resources–these very smart, accomplished women–to offer insight and information to lighten the burden.”

The series will conclude Oct. 3 when Dr. Anne Brewer of Stamford Hospital discusses preparing for end-of-life care.

All sessions take place at Christ the Healer, 20 Brookdale Road in Stamford. The doors open at 7 p.m. for light refreshments, and the discussion begins at 7:30.
