NEW CANAAN, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The New Canaan Daily Voice is counting down some of the biggest news stories of the year. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of our top stories, in no particular order:

  • Hurricane Sandy came to New Canaan in October, knocking out power to thousands of residents, forcing roads to close due to downed trees and power lines and closing schools for six days.
  • A New Canaan couple was found dead in their Park Street condominium in September in an apparent murder-suicide.
  • New Canaan officials investigated the pension being given to former First Selectman Jeb Walker.
  • New Canaan Town Hall was closed in December in advance of planned renovations to the 103-year-old building.
  • Mary Kolek was chosen as superintendent of New Canaan Public Schools, succeeding the retired David Abbey.
  • Town Councilmember Tom O’Dea was elected as state representative for the 125th District, succeeding the retiring Rep. John Hetherington.
  • A proposed housing development on Jelliff Mill Road was rejected by a pair of town commissions. The developers have filed suits against the commissions.
