Purse Stolen From Car at YMCA

On Thursday, Aug. 12, a woman reported to the New Canaan Police that her purse had been stolen from her car while it was parked in the New Canaan YMCA lot on South Avenue. The woman, a 40-year-old resident of South Salem, N.Y., said she noticed broken glass near the driver's side door and that her purse, valued at $20, was gone when she returned. The car had been locked and the purse covered, but the car was broken into between 11 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., police said. A wallet with $90 in cash and the woman's credit cards were inside the purse.

A caller reported vandalism in Dixon Park on Hoyt Street near East Avenue, police said. The park's jungle gym was spray-painted with black and white colors in the shape of a crown, causing damages estimated at $100. The caller reported the vandalism at about 3:19 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, but police said they did not know when the graffiti was painted.
