Police Still Investigating Fatal Ponus Ridge Crash

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan police are still investigating what happened in a pre-Christmas car wreck that killed a Seattle man and landed his son in the hospital.

Officers have yet to speak with Michael Savage, 37, of New Canaan, about the Dec. 22 accident on Ponus Ridge Road, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said Friday. Savage was reportedly driving a 2009 Maserati Quattroporte when it crashed at about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 22. Savage’s father, James Jackson Savage, 74, of Seattle, died at the scene of the one-car crash.

Savage was located about Friday morning, eight hours after the wreck, at Stamford Hospital. Police said Savage told them he would speak with them when his attorney, Joseph Colarusso, was present. Ogrinc said Savage never refused to talk, but she was not sure it has been arranged yet.

Phone calls left Friday for Colarusso were not returned.

Ogrinc said she is not sure whether or when charges might be filed against Savage. “It’s much too early in the investigation,” she said. “We’re going to take our time. There’s no rush. We want to make sure (the investigation) is thorough and complete.”
