Police Look Into Luring Attempt

New Canaan police are investigating an incident that occurred Monday afternoon, when an unidentified man attempted to lure a 13-year-old girl into his van, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, a police spokesperson.

Ogrinc said police are currently searching for a blue minivan, possibly a Honda, and the girl said she believed the first three letters of the license plate were “EHD.” The driver was described as a Hispanic or white male in his 50s, with dark hair with gray highlights. He did not speak with an accent. There was also a passenger in the car, described as a white male in his 70s wearing a beanie hat.

Police said the girl was walking her dog in the region of Chichester Road and Greenly Road at around 5:30 p.m., when the van stopped near her. The male operator of the car asked her to get into the vehicle, to which the girl responded, "No." The man then warned her that if she did not get in the car, she would be in trouble, prompting the girl to run west down Greenly Road. Neither man ever exited the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact New Canaan police at 203-294-3500.
