Owners Hurt as Dogs Fight Near School

Two people sustained minor injuries after a fight involving three dogs just before 11 a.m. last Sunday outside of New Canaan Country Day School, police said. A man with his Labrador passed a woman with two pit bulls, which attacked his Labrador, police said. The dogs' owners sustained minor hand injuries in breaking up the fight. Police did not provide the dog owners' names. None of the three dogs were on leashes, police said. The dogs were quarantined. Police were investigating.

• Police have increased patrols at Waveny Park after two car break-ins occurred nearby. The first occurred in the afternoon last Wednesday in a parking lot, where a leather purse with about $200 cash inside was taken. The second was about 3 p.m. last Thursday when someone took a yellow purse, a camera, a cell phone and a Flip video camera. Police said in both cases, passenger side windows were broken to gain entry.

• Joseph A. Davis, 32, of Rowayton Woods Drive, Norwalk, was charged with second-degree failure to appear after turning himself in to police last Friday on a bench warrant. Police said Davis failed to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 9 to answer charges of unreasonable speed and driving an unregistered vehicle. Davis was released on $250 bond and will next appear in court Oct. 9.

• Richard Chirinian, 42, of Canoe Hill Road, was charged Saturday with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right. Police said Chirinian stopped in the middle of the road on New Norwalk Road near Shaker Road at about 12:10 a.m. Police followed him when he resumed driving and noticed his vehicle weaving between lanes. He was then pulled over and given a field sobriety test. Chirinian is scheduled to appear Oct. 7 in Norwalk Superior Court.

• A broken window at New Canaan High School was reported at 10:40 a.m. Sunday. No items were reported missing, police said. Damage is estimated at $200.

• Several items were taken last Tuesday from a car parked in the driveway of a Jonathan Road home. Police said someone entered the unlocked car and took a Nikon N75 35mm camera and equipment worth $400.
