New Canaan Woman Reports $45K Ring Is Missing

The theft of a $45,000 diamond ring from a Soundview Lane home is under investigation by New Canaan Police.

Police said a 50-year-old woman reported Saturday that her ring had been taken. The diamond ring, which had two baguettes, was in the master bedroom of the home, police reported. The owner had last seen it Tuesday and noticed last Friday that it was gone. Police said renovation workers were at the home during the week.

In other news:

• Dylan P. Casinelli, 19, of 64 Bank St., was charged last Monday with driving while intoxicated and driving at an unreasonable speed. Police said they responded to a call of an auto accident on Valley Road at about 6:29 p.m. Police arrived at the scene to find a 2001 Chevrolet Impala had struck  a tree and sustained front end damage. Police found Casinelli, who was not injured, with a noticeable scent of alcohol on his breath and signs of intoxication. Casinelli was issued a field sobriety test and then arrested. He was released on $260 bond and ordered to appear Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court.

• Police were investigating the theft of a vehicle registration and title from a car parked on River Street. Police said someone entered the unlocked vehicle belonging to a 58-year-old woman and removed the car’s registration and title from the glove compartment. The woman reported the items have been missing since May 13, but alerted police last Tuesday.

• Michael C. Santella, 19, of 1025 West Road, was charged last Tuesday with criminal possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police pulled Santella over on Old Stamford Road at about 5:49 p.m. for having tinted windows and a blacked out license plate. K-9 police dog Zira detected drugs in the rear of the car. When police searched the vehicle, they found a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the center console. Santella was released on a promise to appear Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court.
