NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan Police are alerting residents to a possible scam. They said a resident received a call Monday from a woman who said she was raising funds for local police K-9 units in this area of Connecticut. When the resident asked the caller if the New Canaan Police had authorized the call and knew she was calling, the caller said yes. The caller also told the resident the call center was based in Waterbury and asked for her address. The number the caller gave was (866) 463-1792.
New Canaan Police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said the New Canaan Police have not authorized fundraisers for K-9s in Connecticut. Donations to the New Canaan Police K-9 program can be made directly to Capt. Leon Krolikowski.
