New Canaan Suspends Tree Removal By Eversource

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan officials have put a hold on Eversource’s project of trimming and removing trees along 66 miles of town roads in an effort to get a clearer understanding of the scope of the work that needs to be performed, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

After complaints from residents, and concerns from city officials, the town’s Department of Public Works has stepped in and asked Eversource to limit their work to trimming trees until that happens, the New Canaan Advertiser reported. Although the town can not officially prevent the company from stopping work, they have done so for now, said the New Canaan Advertiser.

Eversource announced the project last month, saying they would be trimming and removing trees in order to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages. The work became a concern when the town learned the company doing the work could not identify which trees would be trimmed and which were slated for removal, added the New Canaan Advertiser.
