NEW CANAAN, Conn. The woman who went missing from Silver Hill Hospital late Thursday afternoon was found alive Friday morning by New Canaan Police.
Lt. Vincent DeMaio reported Friday that the 46-year-old woman was located at approximately 8:05 a.m. on Pastures Lane by a state police canine team. DeMaio said the woman, whose name was not released, was found up against a stone wall. DeMaio said the woman had injured her wrist, but was in stable condition. She was transported to Norwalk Hospital by the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of the wrist injury and exposure. The search lasted more than 16 hours.
DeMaio said he was thankful for the unusually mild temperatures in New Canaan this year. Overnight temperatures in March are normally in the 20s, he said. We were really lucky this wasnt normal March weather, he said. It helped us out and it kept her alive.
The woman was reported missing from Silver Hill at about 3:42 p.m. Thursday. Police said the woman was reportedly suicidal. She was last seen walking on Valley Road toward Wilton.
New Canaan and Wilton police officers were joined by state police and members of the Fairfield County Com 1 unit in a search that continued through the overnight hours. They were also joined by volunteers with the Community Emergency Response Teams from Wilton and New Canaan.
Heather Porter, a spokeswoman for Silver Hill Hospital, declined to comment Friday morning, citing patient confidentiality rules.
