NEW CANAAN, Conn. Residents, officials and New Canaan Police officers paused Tuesday to remember officers who died in the line of duty. Tuesdays ceremony was part of National Police Week.
Four New Canaan officers presented a memorial wreath to a police memorial outside police headquarters. The department uses the occasion to remember New Canaan Officer James A. Marty Martin, who died on July 24, 1991 when he was electrocuted by a downed power pole, and New Canaan Chief Constable Louis Drucker, who was shot and killed in 1888 while attempting to serve a warrant to a man selling liquor without a license.
