NEW CANAAN, Conn. A New Canaan police officer is being credited with saving the life of a 14-year-old boy who went into cardiac arrest.
Police said a 14-year-old boy collapsed at about 8 p.m. Thursday toward the end of a race at Waveny Park. Officer Jason Kim was dispatched to the call and arrived roughly two minutes later. Kim found the boy with no pulse and in cardiac arrest. Police said Kim applied an automatic external defibrillator to the boy and then performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation after one shock. The patient had a pulse and was breathing again at about 8:05 p.m.
Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said the boy, who resides in Florida, was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment and later taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.
