New Canaan Pharmacy Fails Tobacco Sale Test

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A Park Street pharmacy that sold tobacco to a minor was the only store in town to fail a recent state compliance check.

The CVS Pharmacy at 94 Park St. was issued an infraction by New Canaan police for sale of tobacco to a minor as part of a state compliance check conducted Wednesday by the police and the state Department of Mental Health Services.

As part of the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, an undercover youth visited nine stores in town allowed to sell cigarettes and tobacco products and attempted to buy tobacco. Eight shops refused to sell tobacco to the youth Stores are not allowed to sell tobacco to people under the age of 18.

Police said the state Department of Mental Health and Addictions will follow-up with CVS.
