New Canaan Neighbors Give Dollars to Fire Victims

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The victims of last Sunday’s fire on Fawn Lane are receiving a little help from their neighbors thanks to a special account established at the Bank of New Canaan.

Town residents and others have offered financial contributions to the family of Daniel and Peggy Lee, whose home was destroyed by a fire on Sunday morning.

“It’s a small town and a lot of people who work here live in New Canaan and people know them firsthand,” said Diane Knetzger, a spokeswoman for the Bank of New Canaan. “There’s been a strong outpouring from the community. Some people have given $50, some people have given larger amounts.”

Knetzger did not say how much money has been collected, but they will keep the fund going for a while.

“We will keep it up as long as possible until we get them over the hurdles of what’s transpired,” she said.

Residents can visit either Bank of New Canaan branch at 208 Elm St. or 156 Cherry St. or send them by mail. Donations can also be made online by visiting this GoFundMe page.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. All four people in the split-level home at the time of the fire escaped without injury.
