New Canaan Meeting To Address Proposed Trail Along Merritt Parkway

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a public meeting in New Canaan on a feasibility study on the proposed Merritt Parkway Multi-Use Trail.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Outback Teen Center, 71 Main St., New Canaan.

Other meetings are being arranged for other municipalities along the Merritt Parkway corridor.

The study is considering a trail that would span the entire 37.5 miles of the Merritt Parkway, stretching from the New York State border in the town of Greenwich to the Sikorsky Bridge and Housatonic River in the town of Stratford. The trail would primarily be located within the undeveloped highway right-of-way, using the wooded buffer that exists between the road-way and abutting properties.

The public informational meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this feasibility study.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at 860-594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days before the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.

Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this study. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, on Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.

Anyone wishing to discuss the study may contact Timothy M. Wilson at 860-594-3189 or by email at Timothy.Wilson@ct.gov.
