NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan Police are investigating a report from a 21-year-old resident who says a Bridgeport mechanic has refused to return his car after repairing it.
Police said the Rosebrook Road man agreed to have his 1998 Chevrolet Blazer taken to a Bridgeport mechanic for repairs on Sept. 2. Police said the mechanic told the man two days later that it would be an expensive repair job and that he might want to sell the car for parts instead. But the vehicle was repaired and the man met the mechanic in Stamford and paid him about $350 for the work. Police said the mechanic told the man he had no way of getting home and asked if he could use the car and return it on Friday.
Police said the mans father told them on Saturday that the vehicle had not been returned. Police asked Bridgeport police to look into the situation, but nothing happened. The mans father went to the repair shop on Sunday to retrieve the Blazer. As he was about to enter, the son told his father the mechanic called to tell him he saw his father at the shop and that he would need another $60 to let the car go. The father later reported the car stolen.
