Update, 4:30 p.m. - The New Canaan YMCA has power and is open to all members of the community as a cooling center.
NEW CANAAN, Conn. Elm Street has been evacuated and about half of New Canaan is without power on Wednesday afternoon. Connecticut Light and Power crews are investigating a possible problem at a substation.
According to CL&Ps latest outage map, nearly 4,400 customers in New Canaan are without power as of 2:30 p.m. Thats about 52 percent of the towns power customers.
New Canaan officials have activated the towns emergency operations center.
