Mason, the interior design store at 48 Elm St., is closing its doors. Shop owner and New Canaan resident Kristin Gallipoli said Thursday she will be out of business in downtown New Canaan in July. Signs announcing a going-out-of-business sale were on display in store windows Thursday afternoon.
I dont know if this store was the right fit for New Canaan, Gallipoli said as she rearranged pillows and towels while customers browsed. I gave it a go and had a good run.
Gallipoli said she has to close Mason after two years for many reasons, including the expense of running the business in town. She added that many people who complimented the stores selection of home decorations did not always shop there.
Gallipoli said she also had to deal with health issues and returned to work early after an assistant had some personal issues. Gallipoli said she plans to continue her work as a home designer and will maintain her space at the Hamptons Antique Gallery in Stamford.
