NEW CANAAN, Conn. Drivers with lead feet or who like to talk on their cellphones may face a higher risk of getting a ticket from New Canaan Police.
Capt. Leon Krolikowski said several officers will be assigned exclusively to traffic enforcement duties in the coming weeks to crack down on traffic violations. Officers in marked and unmarked vehicles will target drivers who exceed speed limits, use cellphones and other handheld devices while driving, pass stopped school buses, follow too closely and violate other traffic laws that contribute to accidents.
Krolikowski said officers will pay particular attention to New Norwalk Road, Smith Ridge Road, South Avenue, Oeonke Ridge Road, Old Stamford Road and Jelliff Mill Road. Those roads have had increased accidents rates or are roads about which the department has received complaints about traffic safety, Krolikowski said.
