New Canaan Cops Look Into Diamond Swaps

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Police are investigating how diamonds from a woman’s rings were replaced by fakes.

Police said a Sunset Hill Road woman reported last Wednesday that the diamonds on her wedding and engagement rings had been taken and replaced with cubic zirconia. Police said the woman, who moved to New Canaan recently from a Western state, noticed that the diamond on one ring was loose and the other was out of its setting. When she went to a local jeweler to reset the stones, she was told the stones were not diamonds. Police said the woman had the stones reset and appraised four years ago at a different jewelry store. One ring was worth more than $11,000 and the other was worth $10,800. Police said the woman noticed the stones were shaky toward the end of July.
