NEW CANAAN, Conn. The fate of several trees along Main Street will be up for discussion at a New Canaan Tree Board public hearing Wednesday.
The towns newly formed board will have a hearing at 1 p.m. at New Canaan Town Hall to consider what should happen to five Bradford pear trees along Main Street as well as two other trees at the Locust Avenue parking lot.
The Bradford pear trees in the towns main business district are not fit for the downtown area because branches and sections can break off, even without wind, snow or storms, Tree Warden Bruce Pauley said. Pauley spoke of his concerns before the five-member tree board was created and the tree ordinance developed.
Pauley plans to replace the Bradford pears with trees better suited for the towns main shopping area. There are much better choices, he said.
