Memorial Day Steps Off Monday In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan’s annual Memorial Day parade will be taking place this Monday.

The parade is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, and go down Main Street to the Lakeview Cemetery for a ceremony.

Taking part in the parade this year will be town officials, local veterans, New Canaan organizations, sports teams, and other groups. Leading the parade will be this year’s grand marshals, Forest and Russell Kimes III, local brothers and veterans.

The ceremony at the cemetery will include a gun salute and the playing of taps for fallen soldiers. This year’s guest speaker John McLane, New Canaan resident and a decorated commander with the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
