NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Margaret LaDestro, 88, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, died July 8 at Norwalk Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1922 in New Canaan, she was a homemaker and spent most of her adult life raising her three children as well as being a nanny to several others. Most of the children she cared for grew to love her and call her Mama.
LaDestra loved children and was fortunate to be surrounded by them her entire life. She also loved to sing, and that is one of the many things her family will miss. You could be having a rough day and just to hear her upbeat rendition of an Elvis tune, or any other, could turn it around. At the end of the day, she only wanted to see you smile.
She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Finnegan of New Canaan; her son, Stephen R. LaDestro of New Canaan; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. LaDestro Sr., and her son, Frank J. LaDestro Jr. Memorial service will be held at a time to be announced by her family.
