Lapham Center Serves as New Canaan's Shelter

The following notice is from the New Canaan Office of Emergency Management:

We are working on plans to respond to the risks from Hurricane Irene and this message will provide a few details of what is being done and how to find out what you need to know.

First, all residents should expect to be self-sufficient for a period of five to seven days as assistance from the state may not be available on a timely basis. If you are not able to be self-sufficient and need assistance, you can go to our shelter location at the Lapham Community Center in Waveny Park. The shelter there should be open by noon Saturday.

Second, if you need emergency help you should call 911 and get help from the appropriate emergency service.

Third, if you would like more information about New Canaan’s emergency response, call the Emergency Operations Center at (203) 594-4100 and talk to one of our operators or leave a message that we can respond to.

Lastly, if you are not sure whether you are listed to receive emergency messages, please send an email to jim.cole@newcanaanct.gov with your name, address and phone numbers. Alternatively, you can follow us on Facebook.
