NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A jury Friday found New Canaan resident J. Michael Farren, a former White House lawyer in both Bush administrations, guilty of attempt murder in an attack on his wife at their New Canaan home in January 2010, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

Farren, who has been out on bail since his arrest, was led away in handcuffs after the verdict was read Friday in state Superior Court in Stamford, the Advertiser said.

His ex-wife, Mary Margaret Farren, testified on the opening day of the trial on Monday about the brutal beating with a metal flashlight at the hands of her then-husband in their New Canaan mansion.

The verdict was delivered just before 1 p.m. Friday; the jury had begun deliberating at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, the Advertiser said.

He faces up to 50 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 11.
