NEW CANAAN, Conn. Joseph Dominick Casciari, a lifelong New Canaan resident, died Aug. 20. He was 88 years old.
He was born at his familys home on Forest Street on Sept. 2, 1922, and attended New Canaan High School before entering the Army to serve in World War ll. Casciari was a corporal in the Army and landed on Normandy Beach during the D-Day Invasion. He also fought in campaigns in northern France and the Rhineland, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. After the war, Casciari returned to New Canaan to run his own landscaping business. He was also a crew chief for the New Canaan Parks Department. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a parishioner at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Teresa; their three sons, Joseph of New City, N.Y., Dino of Darien, and David of Ridgefield; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated Tuesday morning at St. Aloysius Church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
