Increased Police as Schools Open

New Canaan Police will increase their presence around schools for the start of the school year, according to Sergeant Carol Ogrinc. "Officers will be enforcing traffic laws to ensure the safety of the children as well as pedestrians and other motorists."

She also notes that motorists should use extra caution in the coming weeks as students will be waiting for busses and that motorists should plan for extra driving time when school dismisses.

Sgt. Ogrinc reminded drivers that the fine for passing a stopped school bus while its lights are flashing red is $460.
