Forger Stole From Mother-in-Law, Police Say

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A Norwalk man accused of forging five checks for a total of more than $9,600 is facing forgery and larceny charges from New Canaan police.

Rory Bernier, 48, of James Street, Norwalk, was picked up last week in Norwalk Superior Court by New Canaan officers and is charged with five counts of second-degree forgery and one count of third-degree larceny. Bernier forged his mother-in-law’s signature on five checks, police said. Four of the checks were made out to receive cash, police said. The forgeries were reported to police Nov. 18 by Bernier’s 73-year-old mother-in-law, who lives on St. John Place.  

New Canaan police said Bernier was in the custody of marshals when he was taken into custody by local officers. Bernier was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 17 in Norwalk Superior Court.

In other police news:

• Angela L. Finch, 43, of Old Road, Westport, was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right last Friday after her Nissan sport-utility vehicle was involved in a wreck on Oenoke Ridge Road near the New Canaan Historical Society, police said. Finch failed to negotiate a curve, went off the side of the road and hit a stone wall, police said. Finch was outside the vehicle when police arrived. Officers detected the smell of alcohol on Finch and gave her a field sobriety test. Finch was released on $260 bond and will return Jan. 20 to Norwalk Superior Court.

• Jennifer L. Piccerillo, 38, of Lakeview Avenue, was arrested last Wednesday on two warrants on charges of second-degree failure to appear. According to court records, Piccerillo was charged in Oct. 23, 2010, with operating under suspension. She was charged Sept. 1, 2011, with operating under suspension and failure to return her license. Police said she is now facing five failure to appear charges dating to June 1, 2011. Piccerillo was ordered held on a combined $15,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear Jan. 20 in Norwalk Superior Court.
