STAMFORD, Conn. -- A former White House attorney serving time for a vicious 2010 assault on his wife in their New Canaan home is trying to block her from collecting a $28.5 million settlement, the Stamford Advocate says.

The attorney for J. Michael Farren, who is serving a 15-year prison term for attempted murder, is trying to keep his now ex-wife Mary Margaret Farren from the settlement money pending a U.S. Supreme Court appeal, the Stamford Advocate says.

Farren, 63, is hoping to overturn the state Appellate Court's decision to uphold the civil court's jury decision in the case, the Advocate said.
