Electronics Taken in New Canaan Burglary

New Canaan police were investigating a burglary at a home on Comstock Hill Road in which more than $2,200 in electronics was stolen.

Police said the home was entered between Tuesday evening and Thursday evening. A 37-inch Vizio Razor LCD television, a 32-inch Samsung LED HD television, a Dell Vostro laptop and a Sony PlayStation 3 video game system were taken. Police said the homeowner left one door unlocked when he left last Tuesday morning. Police believe the home was entered through a window.

• A woman reported being scammed out of more than $2,100 from someone posing as her grandson. New Canaan police said the Kimberly Road resident received a phone call last Thursday from a man who said he was her grandson. The man told her he had been arrested in Canada and needed $2,107 to get bailed out of jail. Police said the woman never confirmed that the man was a relative and sent the money via Western Union to Oshawa, Ontario. Police said she later discovered her grandson was not in Canada and did not call her. Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said people should always confirm with another relative if they receive a communication requesting money.

• Copper wire was reported stolen last Monday from a construction vehicle. Police said a 200-foot section of welding wire was taken from a New Canaan Forge Co. vehicle parked on Burtis Avenue between 3 p.m. Feb. 26 and 10 a.m. Monday. Police said the missing wire weighed more than 200 pounds and is worth more than $1,100.

• Pamela M. Chiesi, 46, of Father Peter's Lane, was charged Friday morning with driving while intoxicated, speeding and failure to drive right. Police said Chiesi was pulled over at about 12:30 a.m. after an officer clocked her traveling over the speed limit on Silvermine Road. Police said they noticed the smell of alcohol on Chiesi as well as other signs of intoxication. Chiesi was released on $260 bond and is scheduled to appear March 17 in Norwalk Superior Court.

• Maureen D. Corcoran, 53, of Park Street, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence and driving with a defective tail lamp. Police said an officer stopped Corcoran on Park Street at about 9:47 p.m. after noticing her left tail light was out. Police asked Corcoran for a license and registration and noticed the scent of alcohol and hear her slurring words. Corcoran was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear March 15 in Norwalk Superior Court.
