Elderly Woman's License Revoked After Waveny Wreck

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A 98-year-old woman had her driver’s license taken from her after crashing her car in Waveny Park, police said.

Sarah Finger, 98, of Fairfield, was driving a Volkswagen Jetta in Waveny Park near the Waveny Park Pool at about 1 p.m., Oct. 3, when she struck a guard rail and hit an embankment, police said.

Finger wasn't hurt but was confused as to what happened. Finger was ticketed for failure to drive right and had her driver’s license taken from her pending a retest from the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

In other police news:

- Chris Corvese, 21, of Wilton, was arrested last Monday on a warrant after being stopped for speeding in Westbrook, Conn., by state troopers. New Canaan police wanted Corvese for third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny from a May 31 incident in the New Canaan YMCA parking lot.

Corvese was rummaging through another man’s Chevrolet Equinox when the car’s owner confronted him, police said. Corvese gave the man a story and went with the man inside the YMCA building, police said.

Police later discovered that he fled through the building and left in another vehicle. Police managed to get the license plate number and issued the warrant. Corvese appeared last Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court . He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 2.

- Joseph Anastasio, 34, of East Haven, was turned over to New Canaan police after being arrested on Oct. 4 for speeding in East Haven. Police said Anastasio was supposed to appear in Norwalk Superior Court last August. 

Anastasio was arrested on July 26 and charged with second-degree burglary, sixth-degree criminal attempted larceny after allegedly entering a woman’s home on Weed Street on June 9. Police said Anastasio told the woman that he was working on a painting job and must have entered the wrong home.  

Anastasio is a suspect in several other burglaries, police said. According to court records, Anastasio is scheduled to appear again on Oct. 17.
