Crash Victim Suffers Leg Injuries

Police are still investigating an erratic driving incident Thursday afternoon that sent 44-year-old Carol Venezia of Darien to the hospital.  Police said Venezia was on the sidewalk near the intersection of South Avenue and Bank Street when a van driven by Daniel J. DeRosa, 26, of Norwalk, hit another car and then struck her. Venezia’s husband and son were with her. Police said the husband pushed their son out of the way when he saw the van coming. Venezia was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

Police said Friday that Venezia suffered leg injuries and a serious foot injury. DeRosa was charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 22 in Norwalk Superior Court.

Other charges are pending, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. The 20-year-old who was driving the car DeRosa struck was not injured, police said.
