Potential criminals beware: Even for minor offenses, the New Canaan Police will find you eventually. On Aug. 7, police nabbed Stamford's Kenneth L. Hill, 44, for failing to respond to two prior charges relating to drunken conduct over the past year.
Hill's first incident in New Canaan occurred October 22, 2009, police said. Staff at Dunkin' Donuts on Elm Street called police, saying Hill was inebriated and disturbing customers by loudly banging on the bathroom door. When the cops arrived, they found him "stumbling around," according to the police report. They issued him a citation for creating a public disturbance, and brought him to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. Hill did not respond to the charge by his April 23, 2010 due date, resulting in one of the two warrants served Saturday.
On March 21, 2010, witnesses called police to the New Canaan Library, saying a clearly intoxicated Hill fell asleep at one of the library's computers. "He was just making people uncomfortable," said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the police department. "He didn't hurt anybody, and he wasn't getting loud." When officers arrived, they noticed Hill had urinated on himself, damaging the computer's keyboard. Police charged him with third-degree criminal mischief. He failed to appear for his April 21 hearing, leading to another warrant for his arrest.
Stamford Police stopped Hill for a separate incident, and notified New Canaan Police after seeing the two warrants on his record. He was released on bonds of $1,000 and $250, and is due in court August 23.
