Chief Wants Hit-Run Case Pushed

Police Chief Ed Nadriczny is asking state police to expedite the analysis of evidence in last month's fatal hit-and-run accident on Oenoke Ridge Road. Nadriczny told reporters Tuesday he has sent a letter to the state police crime lab in Meriden requesting it accelerate an evidence review in the death of 84-year-old Jayaraman Krishna.

"We have done what we can within our authority," the chief said during a briefing. Krishna was walking to his mailbox around 4:41 p.m. Aug. 18 when a driver heading toward the New York state border struck him, causing severe head and leg trauma. Krishna died of "multiple traumatic blunt injuries" at Norwalk Hospital, according to the medical examiner's report.

New Canaan police have identified a 2008 Infiniti SUV as the vehicle car that struck Krishna. Police have stated that the driver was a 32-year-old New Canaan woman, whom they have not identified because the investigation is ongoing. Nadriczny said there are no updates in the investigation and "nothing [is] imminent."

"We are following a normal investigative time line. We want to complete a thorough investigation," he said.
