NEW CANAAN, Conn. C. Gordon Smith, 94, a lifelong New Canaan resident, died July 12 in Norwalk Hospital. Born in New Canaan on June 23, 1917, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Anna Simon Smith. His wife, Olga Lazar Smith, preceded him in death. Before retirement in 1982, he was with the marketing division of Chevron USA. Gordon was a member of the Sales Executive Club of Southern New England, past president of the New Canaan Kiwanis Club, and a charter member of the New Canaan Town Band in the late 1930s and early 40s. Gordon was a member of a dance band that played throughout Fairfield County. Survivors include sons Gordon C. Smith, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Gary L. Smith, of Pepperell, Mass.; daughter Lisa Chapman, of New Canaan; brother Ralph Smith, of Southbury, Conn.; and granddaughters Kelly Smith, Lindsay Smith and Christina Chapman. A graveside service was held on July 15 in Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. The Hoyt Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
